Don’t let the noise of this world keep you from hearing the voice of the Lord.
Matthew 26:36-46 (ESV) 36 Then Jesus went with them to a place called Gethsemane, and he said to his disciples, "Sit here, while I go over there and pray." (This was a regular practice for Jesus. Every believer should have a place where they go to pray and spend time alone with the Lord,)
37 And taking with him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, he began to be sorrowful and troubled. 38 Then he said to them, "My soul is very sorrowful, even to death; remain here, and watch with me." 39 And going a little farther he fell on his face and prayed, saying, "My Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me; nevertheless, not as I will, but as you will." 40 And he came to the disciples and found them sleeping. And he said to Peter, "So, could you not watch with me one hour? 41 Watch and pray that you may not enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak." 42 Again, for the second time, he went away and prayed, "My Father, if this cannot pass unless I drink it, your will be done." 43 And again he came and found them sleeping, for their eyes were heavy. 44 So, leaving them again, he went away and prayed for the third time, saying the same words again. 45 Then he came to the disciples and said to them, "Sleep and take your rest later on. See, the hour is at hand, and the Son of Man is betrayed into the hands of sinners. 46 Rise, let us be going; see, my betrayer is at hand.
Two words really stand out WATCH and PRAY
The main topic this morning is SPIRITUAL DISTRACTIONS
It is easier for us to live in the flesh than to live in the spirit. Distractions can come to us in many different shapes, sizes, and forms.
Distractions we all have them. We all face them. We live in a busy world with endless distractions.
Distractions hinder us from accomplishing God’s divine purpose…
when we allow them to…
We need to focus on God and His divine will. Sometimes God places someone to distract you because it is a divine appointment. We need to learn to distinguish what is a distraction and what is a divine appointment.
Hebrews 4:15-16 (NLT) 15 This High Priest of ours understands our weaknesses, for he faced all of the same testings we do, yet he did not sin. 16 So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most.
Matthew 28:38 (ESV) 38 Then he said to them, "My soul is very sorrowful, even to death; remain here, and watch with me.
1st Point RESTORE YOUR FOCUS
Do what you have to…. To restore your vision… write it down…Put it where you can see it…read it out loud everyday
Habakkuk 2:2 (ESV) 2 And the LORD answered me:"Write the vision; make it plain on tablets, so he may run who reads it.
Proverbs 27:12 (NLT) 2 Tune your ears to wisdom, and concentrate on understanding.
2nd point WATCH AND PRAY against temptation
Matthew 26:41 (ESV) Watch and pray that you may not enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak."
Colossians 4:2 (NLT) Devote yourselves to prayer with an alert mind and a thankful heart.
Your spirit man needs you to pray every single day. Pray intentionally
PRAYER CHANGES THINGS
Romans 8:26-27 (NLT) 26 And the Holy Spirit helps us in our weakness. For example, we don’t know what God wants us to pray for. But the Holy Spirit prays for us with groanings that cannot be expressed in words. 27 And the Father who knows all hearts knows what the Spirit is saying, for the Spirit pleads for us believers in harmony with God’s own will.
There is a spiritual battle going on right now in our country…
It is more than a virus
It is more than a political party
It is more than what we feel
Christian men and women are losing their focus and going after carnal thoughts and it is ripping the country apart. Jesus said that a kingdom that is divided will fall apart
Mark 3:24-25 (ESV) 4 If a kingdom is divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand. 25 And if a house is divided against itself, that house will not be able to stand.
3rd point RESTORE YOUR PRIORITIES
2 Timothy 2:3-4 (NLT) 3 Endure suffering along with me, as a good soldier of Christ Jesus. 4 Soldiers don’t get tied up in the affairs of civilian life, for then they cannot please the officer who enlisted them.
John 7:38 (CSB) 38 All who believe in me should drink! As the scriptures said concerning me, Rivers of living water will flow out from within him."
Matthew 26:26-29 (NLT) 26 As they were eating, Jesus took some bread and blessed it. Then he broke it in pieces and gave it to the disciples, saying, “Take this and eat it, for this is my body.” 27 And he took a cup of wine and gave thanks to God for it. He gave it to them and said, “Each of you drink from it, 28 for this is my blood, which confirms the covenant between God and his people. It is poured out as a sacrifice to forgive the sins of many. 29 Mark my words—I will not drink wine again until the day I drink it new with you in my Father’s Kingdom.”
Ask yourself… Is my vision clear? What can I do to restore my focus?
