1 John 3:1-2 (NIV) See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him. 2 Dear friends, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been made known. But we know that when Christ appears, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is.
Romans 8:15-17 15 (NLT ) So you have not received a spirit that makes you fearful slaves. Instead, you received God’s Spirit when he adopted you as his own children. Now we call him, “Abba, Father.” 16 For his Spirit joins with our spirit to affirm that we are God’s children. 17 And since we are his children, we are his heirs. In fact, together with Christ we are heirs of God’s glory. But if we are to share his glory, we must also share his suffering.
Different Types of Fathers
Children need more than someone who is providing a paycheck…they need love…encouragement…cared for
Isaiah 58:10-12 (NKJV) 10 If you extend your soul to the hungry And satisfy the afflicted soul, Then your light shall dawn in the darkness, And your darkness shall be as the noonday. 11 The Lord will guide you continually, And satisfy your soul in drought, And strengthen your bones; You shall be like a watered garden, And like a spring of water, whose waters do not fail. 12 Those from among you Shall build the old waste places; You shall raise up the foundations of many generations; And you shall be called the Repairer of the Breach, The Restorer of Streets to Dwell
Genesis 1:28 (KJV) 28 And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.
Psalms 127:3-5 (NIV) 3 Children are a heritage from the LORD, offspring a reward from him. 4 Like arrows in the hands of a warrior are children born in one’s youth. 5 Blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them. They will not be put to shame when they contend with their opponents in court.
Proverbs 22:6 (KJV) 6 Train up a child in the way he should go, And when he is old he will not depart from it.
7 Keys of a good Godly Father
1. A good godly father has a relationship with his heavenly Father
Matthew 22:37-38 (NIV) 37 Jesus replied: “ ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ 38 This is the first and greatest commandment.
What you say to your children becomes their inner voice
Love them like God loves you
Speak to them like God speaks to you
Encourage them… build them up…
Tell them that you are proud of them… tell them that you love them
If dads and moms won’t lead the family the devil will
2. A good godly father loves his wife.
Do not cut your spouse down un front pf the children…do not fight with your spouse in front of the children
3. A good godly father is the prince of his home
1 Chronicles 9:13 (NIV) 13 The priests, who were heads of families, numbered 1,760. They were able men, responsible for ministering in the house of God.
Galatians 3:28 (NIV) 28 There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.
1 Timothy 5:8 (NIV) 8 Anyone who does not provide for their relatives, and especially for their own household, has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.
4. A good godly father minds his conduct
1 Timothy 4:16 (NIV) 16 Watch your life and doctrine closely. Persevere in them, because if you do, you will save both yourself and your hearers.
5. A good godly father teaches his children how to serve
He leads by example. He teaches his children by what he does not just by what he says. Lead your children by serving other people
Philippians 2:3-4 (NKJV) 3 Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself. 4 Let each of you look out not only for his own interests, but also for the interests of others.
6. A good godly father disciplines his children
Proverbs 3:12 (NLT) 12 For the LORD corrects those he loves, just as a father corrects a child in whom he delights.
Discipline makes a child wise. It teaches them right from wrong and leads them into a path of righteousness
Proverbs 13:24 (NLT) 24 Those who spare the rod of discipline hate their children. Those who love their children care enough to discipline them.
By correcting your children you are guiding them away from eternal dis- construction
7. A good godly father leads
Joshua 24:15 (NLT) 15 But if you refuse to serve the LORD, then choose today whom you will serve. Would you prefer the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates? Or will it be the gods of the Amorites in whose land you now live? But as for me and my family, we will serve the LORD .”
He studies the Word of God and prays regularly
He humbles himself before the Lord
As the father is to you…you should be to your children…protector…provider… love…compassion…
